Dr. Dre’s Personal Life

He is the first child in his family, born to Theodore and Verna Young. The name Romelle was given to him as his middle name. It was imitative of his father’s R&B singing group, the Romelle. Dre’s parents got divorced in the year 1972 when he was just 7. Andre attended his first school, the Vanguard Junior High School in Compton. Due to the high crime rates and gang violence occurrences in the area, he was transferred to the safer out-of-town Roosevelt Junior High School.

Andre wasn’t good at studies, and due to low grades, he had to shift in-between schools. Therefore, he started to socialize more and started building his social and entertainment life for the rest of his school life.

It all started in a nightclub called Eve After Dark, where he often used to go. He consequently became a DJ in the same club under the stage name “Dr. J,” which was based on the nickname of the famous Julius Erving, his favorite basketball player.

At the Eve After Dark Club, there was a segregated smaller studio at the back of the club where Dr. Dre, alongside Yella, recorded several tracks. The first recordings went well, and they recorded a track called ‘surgery’ featuring ‘calling Dr. Dre to Surgery’ in the lyrics. In the year 1984, he joined the musical group World Class Wreckin’ Cru. The song ‘Surgery’ was officially released after being recorded, which made him recognizable on the turntable. The record went so well that it became a hit selling.

Over his musical journey, he has accredited several own hits and collaboration with other biggest rap stars. In 2015, Dre announced that Straight Outta Compton, Compton album, would be his final album, featuring several popular collaborators, including Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar.

Dre is married to Nicole Young, 48, she is ex-wife of the retired basketball star Sedale Threatt.
