Bojana Novakovic studied performing arts at the MacDonald College in Sydney, thereafter graduating from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in 2002.  She debuted in a mini series called Marking Time (2002), earning her an AFI Award for “Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Television Drama or Comedy”.

Bojana Novakovic has appeared in numerous Australian films, including Blackrock (1996), Strange Fits of Passion (1998), The Monkey’s Mask (1999), Thunderstruck (2004).

Bojana Novakovic’s more successful films were The Edge of Darkness, Devil, Burning Man and The King is Dead.

Bojana Novakovic has also appeared in Australian theatre, These People, Away and Strange Fruit at the Sydney Theatre Company; as well as The Female of the Species in Melbourne.

Bojana Novakovic acted in Woyzeck, for which she won a Helpmann award nomination in 2009. For Criminology she won a Green Room award nomination for best actress in 2007. Eldorado also won a Helpmann award nomination in 2006 for best supporting actress.

Bojana Novakovic also owns and manages her own theatre company called “Ride on Theatre”, with locations in both Melbourne and Sydney. She works alongside Tanya Goldberg. Bojana both produced and acted in the Ride on Theatre play called Loveplay in 2004. Green Room nominated her film Debris, she was also nominated in this film for the award of best actress.

In 2008 Bojana Novakovic changed tracks when she created Fake Porno in Melbourne. She worked as a translator, adapting the film as well as directing it. In 2009 the film was requested to participate in the Powerhouse season in Brisbane. It again received three Green Room nominations. Besides Ride On she was the brains behind Melbourne’s Black Lung Theatre, operating as a writer and director. The film she created was Sugar which was widely applauded at the 2007 Adelaide Fringe Festival. She acted in Edge of Darkness in 2010, for which AFI nominated her as Best Actress.

Bojana Novakovic later worked on Fox’s Rake, acting as a gorgeous young prostitute- it was cancelled in 2014.. She then played in The Hallow, which was a horror movie directed by Colin Hardy.

These days Bojana Novakovic is  busy in a theatre production called The Blind Date Project over the Sydney Festival.

Some of Bojana Novakovic’s most notable work was with Ride On’s The Story of Mary MacLane by Herself. The performance was based on the works of Mary MacLane, who claims to be a genius in 20th century America. With the backing of the Australia Council for Arts, Bojana worked together with Tanya Goldberg as director, and Tim Rogers as musician.  The play was incredibly well supported- the assistance of Art NSW, the Griffin Theatre Company, Malthouse Theatre and Merrigong Theatre Company, their dream was realized.

They later created an anthology called Human Days: A Mary MacLane Reader which first sold in 2011. Novakovic penned the foreword herself. They followed this with A Quite Unusual Intensity of Life: A Mary MacLane Companion which was published by Petrarca Press. It was first published in 2015.
