Tonight is the annual (or mostly annual) Billboard Music Awards show. The show will feature stars like Vanessa Hudgens and Ludacris. With such glitz and glamour, it’s not surprising that the BBMAs are expensive…
So how much to the BBMAs cost?
The Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) have been going on since the 1990s, and they’ve gotten bigger and more expensive every year.
Over the years, the BBMAs have had performers including Phil Collins, Jon Stewart, Mariah Carey, Ryan Seacrest, Eminem, Taylor Swift, and Adele.
This year, the BBMAs will be hosted by Ludacris and Vanessa Hudgens.
Generally, the BBMAs are shown on Fox, which picks up a portion of the cost of the show. There are also tickets sold to the show.
Tickets for the BBMAs have historically been expensive and hard to get — unsurprisingly. On Stubhub, they are selling for up to $1000 each, although nosebleed seats are available for about 1/3 of that.
The original price of BBMA tickets started at around $75. However, they are very hard to get from the box office.
How much do the Billboard Music Awards hosts get paid? Well, that information is kept secret by contract.
However, we can look at similar shows to get an idea of how much the hosts get paid. According to The Hollywood Reporter, hosts for the Oscars made around $20,000-$40,000. Meanwhile, other award shows have paid over $100,000 to top talent.
Again, contracts are closely held for the BBMAs; however, we can estimate the cost for the BBMAs by looking at similar awards shows.
The Oscars, for example, costs around $25 million to put on. That includes about $1 million for the venue, a few hundred thousand for performers and hosts, and $250,000 for security.
The BBMAs are likely cheaper than the Oscars, but not by too much. We estimate that the BBMAs cost around $15-20 million to put on each year.
