Sebastian Stan is a Romanian-American actor. He was born on 13th August 1982 to Georgeta Orlovschi, who brought him up alone without the presence of his father. He has been quoted saying that his parents divorced when he was only two years old. When he was eight, his mother moved with him to Vienna, Austria, a move that followed the Romanian Revolution. His mother was to later get a job in Vienna as a pianist until four years later when they moved to Rockland County, New York. This was after Georgeta got married to Anthony Fruhauf who was the headmaster of Rockland County Day School. Stan also schooled in the same school.

It was during his school years and the Rockland School that Stan began acting. He started in several productions like Cyrano de Bergerac, Over Here!, West Side Story, and Harvey. In the same schooling period, he would attend the Stagedoor Manor summer camp where he got to cast in many productions. He was then to realize that he could take acting seriously and go further.

He, therefore, started applying for acting programs at different universities. Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts accepted and admitted him, giving him a chance to spend a year abroad. Spending his time there enabled him to study acting at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London.

Stan got a US citizenship in 2002. He started landing several film and television roles. The roles included in The Covenant and Gossip Girl. He also got a lead role in Kings, the 2009 series where he acted as Jack Benjamin.

Stan also acted in Darren Aronofsky’s ballet thriller, Black Swan, in 2010. In February, the same year, Stan landed a role The Apparition, a supernatural horror film which was released on August 24, 2012. In the film Hot Tub Time Machine, Stan played the main antagonist, Blaine in March 2010.

Come July 2011, and he played Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger. This was his first film in this Marvel Comic Character franchise. He has a nine-picture contract with the Marvel Studios.

In 2012, Stan got a starring role in the thriller Gone. He also started a recurring role as Mad Hatter in Once Upon a Time. He appeared in the USA Network miniseries, Political Animals the same year where he came in as the troubled gay son of a former first lady. It was for this role that he was nominated for the Critic’s Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Movie/Miseries.

In the year 2013, Stan appeared in William Inge’s Picnic as Hal Carter. This was at the American Airlines Theater in New York. He reprised his role as Bucky Barnes in 2014 in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, his first film in the nine-movie contract with Marvel Studios. Stan played Joshua Brummel in Ricki and the Flash in 2015. He also co-starred in The Martian as Dr. Chris Beck, a NASA scientist.

In 2016, Stan reprised his role in Captain America: Civil War as the Winter Soldier. He also co-starred as a NASCAR driver in Logan Lucky, Steven Soderbergh’s comedy. He portrayed Jeff Gillooly in Craig Gillespie’s biopic, I, Tonya which was released in 2017. In the drama I’m Not Here, Stan starred alongside J. K. Simmons.

Sebastian Stan is expected to be reprising his role as Winter Soldier in Avenger: Infinity War scheduled for release in 2018. He is also expected to feature in its untitled sequel to be released in 2019. He will also be portraying Charles Blackwood in the film We Have Always Lived in the Castle. This will be in addition to starring in Vietnam War drama film, The Last Full Measure. Also, he is part of the cast in the thriller Destroyer opposite Nicole Kidman.
