    Born in Stonesfield, Oxfordwhire on the 9th of October 1981 to a solicitor and historian, Rupert went to The Marlborough School in Woodstock before doing his A-levels at the d’Overbroeck’s College in Oxford. He then studied acting formally in London at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. Rupert’s childhood ambition was to be an archaeologist but he changed to acting in favour of a more lucrative career path. He has been with his wife, American actress Aimee Mullins since 2013.

    As a second year drama school student, Rupert Friend caught the attention of a casting director after playing minor roles in film The Laramie Project. He then debuted as an actor in the film The Libertine (2004), which put him into the limelight at the 2005 Satellite Awards as “outstanding new talent”. In 2005, Rupert went on to star in Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont as Ludovic Meyer and in Joe Wright’s Pride and Prejudice as Wickham. Other significant roles that Rupert has played include Chéri in the film Chéri, Kurt Kotler in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and as Albert in Young Victoria (2010) for which got he received praise from historian Alex von Tunzelmann. He also acted in The Kid, Lullaby for Pi, 5 Days of War (2011), Hitman: Agent 47 (2015), and Starred Up (2014), for which Rupert was nominated Best Supporting Actor at the BIFA Awards.

    Rupert Friend’s foray into television has also been successful. He played Peter Quinn in 55 episodes of Homeland, a well known political thriller series. He received multiple major nominations for his role in Homeland, including Best Guest Actor In A Drama Series at the 2013 PAAFTJ Television Awards for Best Guest Actor In A Drama Series, Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series at the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards, and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards from 2013 to 2016.

    Rupert Friend’s first theater appearance was in 2010, in the UK premiere of The Little Dog Laughed.

    Apart from acting in films, television and theater, Rupert Friend has dabbled in production. After starting his own company, Beat Pictures, he made his directorial debut with Steve, a 2010 short film starring Keira Knightley, Tom Mison and Colin Firth. It was later added to the Stars in Shorts 2012 compilation and not only did Rupert produce it, he was also involved in the direction and writing of this film. The other film Rupert wrote was the short film The Continuing and Lamentable Saga of the Suicide Brothers (2008), which he starred in as well.
