The foundation was initially named “Sussex Royal” which had to be replaced and rebranded after Queen Elizabeth II reportedly ordered them to abandon the use of the word “royal”. With that title off the table, the associated social media accounts with the previous name now being closed, the couple has come up with a new name for their Foundation, Archewell. The name Archewell, which is also a Greek word meaning “source of action”, has been inspired by their 10 months’ old son named Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

In connection to the name, their recent statement said, “We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name.”

With the COVID-19 pandemic on the rise, they aim to launch Archewell when the time is right. Speaking to the media, the couple said: “Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global COVID-19 pandemic but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be”.

Prince Harry, 35, grandson of Queen Elizabeth and Meghan Markle, 38, who has been a former actress, moved to Canada recently after they announced to step back from their royal duties. The couple married in a glittering ceremony in 2018, after which she retired from acting and deactivated her related social media accounts.

Life of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

In January 2020, the couple announced that they are stepping back from their roles of senior royal family members and pursue to become “financially independent”. This means they opted out of the funding from the foreign Grant, a funding mechanism that financially supports the royal family.

Long before Meghan was a royal, she lived the life of a successful actress. Meghan Markle’s net worth alone was worth $ 5 million compared to Prince Harry’s net worth of $40 million, a sum that Harry inherited from his mother, Princess Diana. The couple is currently residing in Canada, where they have set up home close to Hollywood.

Future of Archewell

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, in a recent statement, said they wanted Archewell “to do something of meaning, to do something that matters.” The couple, through Archewell, plans to set up an organization that conducts support to groups of persons in need in terms of emotional counseling, social care, psychological assistance, and mental health support.

The project of Archewell will include multimedia educational empire, conferences, seminars, workshops, and events. Also, a website on wellbeing will be launched. As for now, these are some of the future plans they have disclosed and more is yet to come when the time is right.
