    Mark Pavelich started out as a star performer for Eveleth High School ice hockey team. He attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and was an amateur player for three seasons.

    He played for the U.S. national team in the famous 1980 Olympics gold medal winning match against Russia at Lake Placid, in a game called ‘Miracle on Ice’. Again in 1981, he played for the U.S. national team in the World Ice Hockey Championship. After playing for the U.S. national team and the Olympics win, Pavelich played one season for H.C. Lugano in Switzerland. Till then, Pavelich was never drafted by a National Hockey League (NHL) Team. In 1982, U.S. Olympic coaches who had taken control of the New York Rangers lured him back to the United States. He still holds the Rangers record for most points as a rookie (76). He became famous in ice hockey as a playmaking center player.
