Lupita Nyong’o, who has earned her fame thanks to her talents in 12 Years A Slave and has been a style icon ever since, was the subject of a very expensive and priceless robbery. According to TMZ, her pearl encrusted, beautiful gown that she donned for the Academy Awards was stolen from her hotel room just days later. The dress is a custom Calvin Klein collection dress made from over 6,000 pearls. It was stolen from Lupita Nyong’o’s hotel room in the London Hotel in West Hollywood. Police received a phone call to report the crime just before midnight. Even more heartbreaking is that Nyongo’o had creative influence on the dress. She worked together with Francisco Costa to design the perfect dress for the red carpet event. We’re sure that the loss is especially devastating knowing she had a hand in its beautiful design.
This is a more unfortunate circumstance of Lupita Nyong’o making headlines for her Oscar attire. In 2014, she was without a doubt the best dressed of the night. She turned heads and sparked conversation over her powder-blue pleated Grecian gown designed by Prada. Her flawless style, down to her pristine manicure, is admired by many and it’s a shame that she has to deal with a criminal investigation to get her one-of-a-kind dress back into her possession.
