    Stephen Edwin King is a famous American author, filmmaker, actor, screenwriter, and musician that has received numerous awards for his contribution to literature. Primarily, his works consist of supernatural fiction, horror, suspense, science fiction, and fantasy. King is also known as the “King of Horror.”

    To date, he has published a total of 58 novels which include books under the pen name Richard Bachman, and six non-fiction books. King has written about 200 short stories, most of which have been printed in book collections. His books have sold more than 350M copies worldwide, many of which have been made into films, television series, and mini-series. These include “Carrie,” “Misery,” “Stand by Me,” “It,” “The Shawshank Redemption,” and “The Shining.” He used the pseudonym Richard Bachman to test if he could recreate his success as a writer.

    In 2015, Stephen King received the National Medal of Arts from the US National Endowment for the Arts. He also received the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters from the National Book Foundation, World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement, Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America to name a few. At this time, he has received more than 50 literary awards.

    In his early years, King wrote a weekly column for the school newspaper – The Main Campus. Then, in 1967, he sold his first short story – The Glass Floor to Startling Mystery Stories. Stephen took Bachelor of Arts in English and graduated from the University of Maine in 1970. A year later, he married Tabitha Spruce which he met at the Fogler Library of the same university.

    Stephen started his career as an English teacher in high school at Hampden Academy. Apart from that, he continued to write short stories which he sells to men’s magazines. He also worked on novels, Carrie was published in 1974, which he earned $400,000 for the paperback rights. It was followed by Salem’s Lot in 1975, The Shining in 1977, and The Stand in 1978. More of his works came after that.

    King is not only successful in writing short stories and novels, but he is also a good actor. He appeared doing cameo roles in several of the film adaptations of his books. King has made his directorial debut for the movie Maximum Overdrive, for which he also wrote the screenplay. The film was an adaptation of his short story “Trucks.”

    At present, Stephen King’s net worth is estimated to $400 million most of which he earned from his bestselling books and epic movies.

    Stephen and Tabitha King were blessed to have three children and four grandchildren. They now spend winters in their home in Florida while the rest of the year at their Bangor and Center Lovell homes. The couple donates a part of their wealth to both local and national charities and also give scholarships to high school students.
