YouTubers Ian Andrew Hecox and Daniel Anthony Padilla form the duo Smosh which is a popular sketch comedy channel on the platform. They first started posting their content in 2005 and have since amassed massive popularity for their content.
Anthony first started smosh in 2002 where he made the website smosh.com which featured Flash animations. Ian later joined and they later started posting videos on YouTube. Their earliest viral work was their lip-synching video for the “Pokemon Theme Music Video” which they posted on November 2005. This is known as one of their most popular videos gaining over 24 million views since it was posted. Due to copyright claims, the video was taken down.
Thanks to the popularity of that video, they were voted featured on Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year: You” issue which was published on December 2006. Smosh later went on to team up with YouTube to recreate the Pokemon Theme music video.
The channel has since grown in popularity as their content was able to consistently gain millions of views and their channel gaining millions of subscribers. They went on to create the “iShut Up App” for Android and eventually was released on iTunes. They were then acquired by Defy Media in 2011.
In the following year, Smosh started 3 new channels on YouTube which were ElSmosh, Shut Up! Cartoons, and Smosh Games. Smosh also released several game-themed albums Sexy Album, If Music Were Real, Smosthatstic, and The Sweet Sound of Smosh.
Smosh went on to crowdfund a game based on their popular webseries titled Food Battle: The Game. The project earned $258,777 and was released on November 2014. 10% of the profits were also given to various charities as a way to give back to the community.
The weekly comedy webseries Part Timers was released on January 2018. The show depicts humorous and often satirical employees of a children’s arcade called Pork E. Pine’s.
Due to creative differences, Anthony Padilla recently left Smosh on June 2018. Ian Hecox however has chosen to remain and further develop and produce content for Smosh.
