Abner bats Right and throw Right. Abner studied at Mechanicsburg Area High School in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. It was here that the New York Mets scouts identified Abner as an all-around outfield prospect after his sophomore year. In 1984, the Mets in their amateur draft picked up Abner.
Abner was never selected by the New York Mets to play in the big league games. He kept playing in the minor league games and in 1986 he was traded to the San Diego Padres. He was used mostly as a reserve outfielder by the San Diego Padres for five seasons. Again in 1991, he was traded to the California Angels and in 1992 he was signed up by the Chicago White Sox. The best season in Abner’s career was when he played for the White Sox.
Abner debuted in the MLB on September 8, 1987, for the San Diego Padres. In all, Abner played for the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and Chicago White Sox. Abner’s career ended with the Chicago White Sox, in 1992.
