Tomjanovich played basketball in college with Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball (1967-1970) and started playing professionally in 1970. In the 1970 draft, Tomjanovich was chosen number 2 in round 1 by the San Diego Rockets. Tomjanovich left the game of basketball in 1981.

    Tomjanovich played for the Houston Rockets during 1970-1980. Some of the highlights of Rudy Tomjanovich’s career included: 5× NBA All-Star, No. 45 Retired numbers, Second-team NCAA Men’s Basketball All-Americans – Associated Press; United Press International, Third-team All-American – National Association of Basketball Coaches, 2× First-team All-Big Ten Conference, No. 45 Retired numbers, 2× NBA champion, and List of NBA All-Star Game head coaches.

    Tomjanovich set a career record of 13,383 (17.4 ppg) points, 6,198 (8.1 rpg) rebounds, and 1,573 (2.0 apg) assists. Tomjanovich won a bronze medal in the 1998 FIBA World Championship in the United States men’s national basketball team event. Tomjanovich won a gold medal in the 2000 Summer Olympics in the Basketball at the 2000 Summer Olympics event.
