Instead of moving into Apartment 1 at Kensington Palace, the couple has decided to move to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate instead in preparation for their first child, who is due in the spring next year. According to the official statement, the Frogmore Cottage was the Queen’s gift to the Royal. It is located within the private Home Park and faces the scenic grounds of Frogmore House. It might sound familiar to die-hard followers because it is where the couple’s wedding reception took place. Also, this is where their engagement photos were taken.

The Royal couple’s new official residence has ten rooms, which is presently going through massive renovations to make it suitable to Royal standards because it has been used as staff accommodation. At this time, the property is divided into five parts, but after the renovations, Frogmore Cottage will be converted back into its former splendor, with the addition of a state-of-the-art gym, a yoga studio, and a nursery for the baby.  Moreover, the house needs security upgrades to make it safe for Prince Harry and Meghan as it has been relatively close to the public.

The Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate, where the new official Royal residence is situated is about 32 kilometers from the Kensington Palace, where the couple has lived since their engagement. Some royals have made Windsor Estate their final resting place including Prince Albert and Queen Victoria. The dead Queen and her husband were buried in a Romanesque mausoleum on the grounds. Also, King Edward III final resting place can be found in the Royal Burial Grounds amid lush gardens.

The new Duke and Duchess of Sussex are following in the footsteps of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who also raised their young family in the countryside, enjoying their privacy and away from the public’s prying eyes. It was only last year that the Cambridge’s moved to London when Prince William became a full-time Royal. Despite the move, the office of Prince Harry and Meghan will continue to be based at Kensington Palace.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently residing in apartment 1 at Kensington Palace and will move out early next year.
