Robert Wagner began his career in Michigan where he started trying to get acting roles as a young boy in different films. He tried to get roles in Teresa, but wasn’t able to. So he continued working and was eventually able to get a role in a 1950 film made by Fox.
During the 1950s Wagner made several films, and he developed relationships and a following. He continued to work for Fox and was able to become a leading actor in a few movies during the mid 50s, including Titanic.
He continued to build his career over the years during the 1950s, and he started to be cast as the star of several major films. In total he appeared in dozens of films in that decade.
Wagner later moved to another studio after he became unhappy with the pace at which Fox made movies. He eventually started to complain and change his association with the studio. He did some work with MGM and then Columbia Pictures, before he started working in foreign films.
Nevertheless, he was unable to be very successful in foreign films, and he eventually returned to the U.S. where he stared working with Universal Studios. He moved into the TV business and started appearing in many popular shows of the 60s and 70s. Some of the shows on which he could be seen were Switch and Hart to Hart.
Both of those series did very well, and he eventually became a household name. At the same time he was doing these TV shows, he also continued to work on films, including some well known classics like Fiddler on a Hot Tin Roof.
In much of his earlier work, Robert Wagner made very little money. During the 1950s, actors got paid very little compared to what they receive today. In fact, some of the biggest stars of the 50s, like Marilyn Monroe and James Dean only earned in the tens of thousands of dollars for their work.
Still, over time, Robert Wagner gained more of a bargaining power with his rising popularity, and he was able to command a higher salary. In later films, he worked out deals to split profits For Charlies Angels, for instance, Wagner was supposed to receive a 50% split with Aaron Spelling, but there are questions as to whether the money materialized.
In the 1980s and 90s, Wagner made more money, as film star values went up. In the late 80s, Wagner did several TV shows and movies, and he had some smaller rules in 90s movies, like the Austin Powers series. During that time, he also did many other projects and made appearances on several other shows.
In addition, a significant portion of his later earnings came from doing promotions, for which he was a good candidate because he appealed to older people. He did several reverse mortgage ads by different companies, and he acted as a spokesperson for other businesses.
In all, we estimate Robert Wagner net worth in 2018 at $3 million.
