Rachel Uchitel is a polarizing figure in Hollywood, but despite the controversy surrounding her celebrity, she’s certainly proved her staying power.
Uchitel began her road to fame under tragic circumstances. After losing her first fiance, Andy O’Grady in the 9/11 terror attacks, she quickly became the “‘face’ of grief” for the tragedy after a photo of her weeping and clutching a missing poster for Andy appeared front page on the New York Post days after the attacks.
The beautiful Uchitel than made headlines for several high-profile affairs as the other woman, most famously with Tiger Woods. We all remember the nasty details of Tiger Woods’ purported sex addiction and the numerous women that came forward to allege Woods cheated on then-wife Elin Nordegren with them.
Already a fixture in the New York nightlife, the allegations catapulted Uchitel into national headlines and spotlight once again. Uchitel reacted to the fame by trying to continue it, shortly after doing a short stint on VH1’s Celebrity Rehab for an alleged pill problem and overall “addiction to love.” Unfortunately, that appearance ending up costing her money rather than earning it.
According to sources, Uchitel made an agreement to not disclose any details about her affair with Tiger Woods in exchange for a large settlement of between $8 to $10 million. Once she appeared on Celebrity Rehab, Woods claimed it was a violation of the terms and threatened to sue for the “hush money.” In 2011, Uchitel had to give Woods most of the settlement money back after being advised by her layer, Gloria Allred.
Uchitel than threatened to sue Allred, but we have a feeling Uchitel got to keep more money than reports have led on; no legal action by Uchitel was ever taken. You’d think that a woman given nearly $10 million and than forced to give it all back would put up a bigger fight.
Earlier in 2014, she appeared on Millionaire Matchmaker and continued to capitalize on her reputation for having trouble finding love.
