Jennifer Odessa Nettles was born on September 12, 1974 in Douglas, Georgia in the United States. She started her career singing at school and in church. She was part of a performing arts group called Georgia 4-H’s Clovers & Company from 1986 to 1993. While at Agnes Scott College, Nettles and Cory Jones formed Soul Miner’s Daughter. They released two albums, The Sacred and Profane and Hallelujah. Nettles formed the Jennifer Nettles Band in 1999. The band was chosen as the grand prize winner of The Big Deal $100,000 Music Search of Mars Music. They released two live albums and three studio albums.
Nettles, Kristen Hall and Kristian Bush formed Sugarland in 2003 but Hall left the group in 2006. The duo won awards from the Grammys and the Academy of Country Music. Nettles and Bush eventually worked on separate projects but started working together again this year. Nettles was a judge in Duets, a singing competition on ABC. She released an album entitled, That Girl in 2014. She signed with Big Machine Label Group after leaving Mercury Nashville. In 2018, Nettles released another album called, Playing with Fire and later a Christmas album entitled, To Celebrate Christmas.
Nettles was married to Todd Van Sickle in 1998 but they divorced in 2007. She remarried in 2011 to boyfriend, Justin Miller and they have a son. Nettles supports different non-profit organizations such as Shalom Foundation, American Cancer Society, American Liver Foundation and Honor the Earth, to name a few.
