Hulk Hogan was born as Terry Gene Bollea on August 11th, 1953 in Augusta, Georgia, U.S.A. He is a former active professional wrestler, but has also dived into other entertainment industries such as acting, hosting and more. While Hulk Hogan played on the bass guitar whe he grew up, he never really became a famous musician even though he said an interview he “nearly” auditioned to be a part of Metallica. Instead, professional wrestling recruiters found Hulk Hogan at the gym one day and they were impressed with his physique. It was during this meeting that Hulk Hogan got his start in the professional wrestling industry in the 1970s.
While Hulk Hogan worked as a heel for the start of his career, he was not a household name yet. Hulk Hogan did not become a household name until he got a small role in Rocky III starring Sylvester Stallone. It was this role that made Hogan a more recognizable face and he jumped ship to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1983. It was in 1984 when he became the WWF Champion by defeating The Iron Shiek did Hulk Hogan become the famous wrestler we know today. He was WWF Champion for four years and dominated the golden era of professional wrestling in the 1980s.
Vince McMahon started WrestleMania in 1985 and this further increased Hulk Hogan’s popularity in the United States and around the world. At WrestleMania, Hulk Hogan teamed up with actor Mr T to face the team up Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff. However, it was not until 1987 did Hulk Hogan reach the peak of his popularity. Hogan was booked to beat Andre the Giant at WrestleMania 3 in front of over 90,000 fans at the Pontiac Silverdome.
Hogan continued to be popular in the ’80s, although his character started to get stale. While he did get some roles in TV shows and movies, he wasn’t really that successful in Hollywood like The Rock is right now. Instead of acting forever, Hogan decided to join Vince McMahon’s rival in the WCW. His WCW run in the ’90s was also very successful because he turned heel and his faction the NWO started another wrestling boom in the late ’90s.
It wasn’t until his wrestling career was over did his life start to crumble in the ’00s. He divorced his wife and got himself into a lot of debt. Not to mention his public image suffered recently when he got caught saying racist things during a leaked sex tape. However, he won a lawsuit against Gawker over the sex tape and now he’s starting to rebuild his public image. He’s now signed a new deal with the WWE after getting fired from the company in 2015.
Hulk Hogan has always been pretty wealthy over his career, although he lost a bit of money due to his divorce from Linda Claridge. While he didn’t go broke, it still cost him a lot of money. Things are looking up for Hulk Hogan this year though thanks to winning his lawsuit against Gawker and being reinstated to the WWE confirming his return to the professional wrestling industry.
In all, we estimate Hulk Hogan net worth in 2018 at $25 million.
