    DJ Avicii Career, Earnings, Salary

While DJ Avicii was his stage name, the man behind the talent was born as Tim Bergling. Tim was born in Stockholm, Sweden and began cultivating his talent early on. In fact, by 2009, reaching the end of adolescenece, DJ Avicii would go on to have already become a prolific producer, release music incredibly swiftly. DJ Avicii took on his moniker in the process of creating a MySpace page and stated that the term means, “the lowest level of Buddhist hell.” Several of Avicii’s early songs that he remixed included, “Even,” “Ryu,” and “Muja.”

However, it was the release of his song, “Levels,” in which Tim Bergling sampled, “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” by Etta James that DJ Avicii catapulted into international stardom.

On his principal sound style, Avicii told Rolling Stone:

EDM started getting oversaturated four, five, six years ago, when money became everything. From that point, I started mentally not wanting to associate myself with EDM. Now that I have more time in the studio, I want to learn as much about other genres as possible. That’s what I love the most – having a session with Nile Rodgers, for instance, and getting an understanding of music that’s invaluable

In Mike Posner’s hit song, “A Pill in Ibiza” Avicii is actually referenced, about which Avicii told Rolling Stone:

Mike’s a good friend, so I took it as an honor. And I agree – parties can be amazing, but it’s very easy to become too attached to partying in places like Ibiza. You become lonely and get anxieties. It becomes toxic.

Avicii also went on to collaborate in some pretty famous partnerships. Examples include Madonna and a mystery reunion with Abba. On these topics, Avicii told Rolling Stone:

I’d love to work with her [Madonna] again, but that was right when I was busiest, and I think she might have been disappointed in me for not being able to put in as much time as she wanted. A lot of things start suffering when you don’t have the energy or time to do things properly. You think you can get away with it, but the quality suffers…Wow! I hadn’t heard that. A lot of young people don’t understand the greatness of Abba. There’s almost no songwriters on the same level as Björn [Ulvaeus] and Benny [Andersson]. They were like, “[Expletive] making hits, we’re gonna make musicals” – and they killed it. I really admire that.

Avicii himself went on to be sampled by Leona Lewis and also won a Grammy award for “Levels.” In 2016, however, Avicii decided to retire from touring and take a break. In 2017, Avicii announced a documentary to be released that would provide an account of his retiring from touring. Celebrities featured included Chris Martin of Coldplay and Wyclef Jean.
