David Hlubek is originally from Florida, and he then moved to Hawaii. He ended up moving several times because his father was in the military.
From Hawaii Hlubek ‘s family moved to California –Sunnyvale, Mountain View, and San Jose. He eventually returned to Florida before starting Molly Hatchet.
The band Molly Hatchet (named after a famous ax murderer) was started when Dave Hlubek joined forces with friends Steve Holland, Danny Brown, Duane Roland, Bruce Crump, and Banner Thomas. Hlubek wrote most of the songs.
They got a deal with Epic music in the late 70s, and had some advising from Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band stuck together and flourished for a few years, before Hlubek broke it up due to cocaine abuse.
Hlubek was in very bad shape for years, but he was able to eventually get back on track and start additional bands. He did many collaborations with other artists and legendary producers.
