The more facts that come to light about members of the Trump administration and their controversies, the more we learn about the secret wealth of a number of politicians and political operatives. Carter Page is no exception to that rule.
Who is Carter Page? Before Donald Trump cited him as a foreign policy adviser, he was a little-known oil industry consultant who founded Global Energy Capital, an investment fund focused on oil and gas business.
What made Carter Page a household name was that President Trump cited him as an adviser in his presidential campaign, although that’s a claim that White House campaign staffers later denied.
Carter Page began as a Naval Academy officer and served in the Navy for 5 years. Once he’d completed his education and his stint in the navy, Carter Page went on to obtain his MBA from the Stern School of Business at NYU.
Next, Carter Page joined Merrill Lynch as an investment banker. During his time as an investment banker, Carter Page also maintained significant involvement with the Council on Foreign Relations, making a number of panel appearances for the Council’s events.
After leaving Merrill Lynch, Carter Page started a company named Global Energy Capital. The company is an investment fund that specializes in Russian and Central Asian gas and oil business.
According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, Global Energy Capital was —
at least originally — located in Page’s parents’ house.
“Documents filed with the New York State Department of State list Global Energy Capital’s address as a City of Poughkeepsie residence, a one-family home owned by Page’s parents, Allan and Rachel Page, according to Dutchess County Parcel Access.”
According to Politico, the current address of Global Energy Capital is a co-working space in New York City. This seems to suggest that the company was not as large or profitable as other sources have implied.
During his time running this fund, Carter Page was a proponent of Vladimir Putin and criticized US policy. At one point, Page reportedly communicated with Russian agents, according to BuzzFeed.
Buzzfeed quoted a Russian agent who said, “I think he is an idiot and forgot who I am…He got hooked on Gazprom thinking that if they have a project, he could rise up…I also promised him a lot…This is intelligence method to cheat, how else to work with foreigners?”
So what’s Carter Page net worth? Like many Russia-related individuals whom we’ve profiled, it is very difficult to account for all of Carter Page’s assets. Assets may be spread all over the world, where banking laws are extremely opaque, and reporting requirements are weak.
Given the information available to us, we estimate Carter Page net worth at around $1 million. Note, however, that other estimates vary wildly — some reaching over $100 million.
