Anthony Bourdain was born on June 25th, 1956 in New York City, New York, U.S. Bourdain started his cooking career by graduating in 1978 at the Culinary Institute of America. It was actually a trip in France that made him love food so much. When he was a kid, he fell in love with tasting oysters and his love for food exploded from then on. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, he went on to run many successful restaurants such as the Supper Club, One Fifth Avenue and Sullivan’s. He became an executive chef at Brasserie Les Halles in New York. He was there for a few years and kept a great relationship with the restaurant until it had to close due to bankruptcy in 2017.
Even though he was a great chef, he was also a successful author as he wrote lots of book in his career. A New York Times bestseller was a book called Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly. Many other New York bestsellers eventually followed after that. He mostly focused writing about the things passionate to him such as food and travel. Even though he wrote books, he penciled in many articles and essays throughout his life too. The only time he deviated was when he co-wrote an original graphic novel called Get Jiro! published by DC Comics/Vertigo.
However, most of Bourdain’s wealth comes from his TV career as he was a recognizable face. Some of the shows he appeared in included the likes of A Cook’s Tour, No Reservations, The Layover and Parts Unknown. He also guest starred in many other cooking shows too as the first time I saw him was in the Bravo reality TV show called Top Chef. Despite being big in the TV food industry, he surprisingly rarely appeared in any movies. The only big film where he got a guest appearance in was the 2015 film called The Big Short.
