    Alan Cumming was born in Scotland on the 27th of January, 1965. He attended Carnoustie High School in Scotland but had a traumatic childhood with an abusive father who believed Alan wasn’t his biological son. He says this environment taught him how to act, as he was constantly suppressing his emotions around his father.

    Alan Cumming has been active in theatre- appearing on the London Stage in Hamlet and as a maniac in The Accidental Death of an Anarchist which earned him an Olivier Award. He also appeared in Broadway with The Threepenny Opera and Cabaret for which he won a Tony Award.

    As far as film as concerned, Alan Cumming’s most recognized works are Emma, GoldenEye, the Spy Kids trilogy, Son of the Mask, and X2.

    Alan Cumming’s work in TV is also extensive- his role in The Good Wife has earned him Primetime Emmy Awards (3), Screen Actors Guild Awards (2), as well as Golden Globe Awards (2) and one Satellite Award.

    In writing, Alan Cumming has written a novel titled Tommy’s Tale, and Not My Father’s Son: A Memoir (an autobiography).

    Alan Cumming’s first ever film appearance was in Gillies MacKinnon’s Passing Glory (1986). His first feature film was in Ian Sellar’s Prague (1992). It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, allowing him to achieve Best Actor award at the Atlantic Film Festival as well as a Scottish BAFTA Best Actor nomination.

    Alan Cumming was also the host of PBC’s Mystery! Between 2008-2004. He played as Eli Gold on the CBS show The Good Wife.

    Notably, accidental Death of an Anarchist for which he earned the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy Performance. In 2007 he was the lead actor in the National Theatre of Scotland’s production of The Bacchae. This play premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival.
