Rachel Frances, better known as Frankie Shaw, is an actress, writer/director and producer from Los Angeles. One of her more notable, earlier works is in the Sundance film The Freebie. The film earned positive reviews due to the fact that it was well produced despite being completely improvised.
After a brief role in the sitcom Blue Mountain State, she went on to work on various indie films such as The Pretty One.
She was then recognized for her short film SMILF which won the 2018 Short Film Jury Award for U.S> Fiction at Sundance. Shaw herself starred, wrote, and directed the movie giving her full credit for the film’s overall success.
Showtime picked up SMILF shortly after where Shaw was also the lead protagonist, head writer and director of the 30-minute sitcom. The show focused on the struggles of a young actress and single mom in Los Angeles.
She then went on to produce another film called Too Legit for Sundance which was a satirical piece focused on Congressman Todd Akin’s controversial remarks on rape, pregnancy, and women’s health. The movie starred Zoe Kravitz as the lead along with Teresa Palmer, Nate Corddry and Clark Gregg.
The critically acclaimed TV series Mr. Robot with Rami Malek also features Shaw as a recurring character in the plot. Shaw also continues to appear in several other successful TV dramas and comedies such as Mixology, Tough Cookie, Hello Ladies, and Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thailand.
She also appears in the film Stronger in 2018 which portrays the story of the Boston bombing survivor, Jeff Bauman.
