    Quincy Matthew Hanley was born on October 26, 1986, on a military base in Wiesbaden, Germany. He is also known by his stage name is Schoolboy Q. His parents divorced before he was born, and he and his mom moved to Texas before finally staying in California. He was part of 52 Hoover Gangster Crips, a street gang. He was a drug dealer selling Oxycontin, crack and marijuana. He was arrested in 2007 and was in jail for six months.

    Schoolboy Q worked with Top Dawg Entertainment in 2006. In 2008, he released his first mix tape, Schoolboy Turned Hustla. The following year he signed a deal with Top Dawg Entertainment where Black Hippy was formed. Schoolboy Q had a rivalry with another rapper named 40 Glocc but this was short-lived. His second mixtape was released on May 14, 2009. The following year, he toured and worked with Black Hippy in the studio. Schoolboy Q released his first independent album titled Setbacks, on January 11, 2011. It sold nearly 1,000 digital copies in the first week and reached number 100 on the US Billboard 200 chart. Schoolboy Q had his first show on March 11, 2011 but it was during the same month when he was arrested and jailed because of marijuana possession.

    In 2012, Schoolboy Q released Habits & Contradictions through iTunes. It was on iTunes Top 10 Albums chart. It debuted at number 111 on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 3,900 digital copies in the United States. It also debuted at number 75 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Abums, number sixteen on the Top Rap Albums, number seventeen on the Top Independent Albums and number three on the Top Heatseekers Album Chart. Schoolboy Q signed with Interscope Records. They released his single, Hands on the Wheel. In the same year he toured with other rappers including Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller and Kendrick Lamar.     Schoolboy Q performed at the 2013 BET Experience Music Festival. He released his Collard Greens single from his debut album Oxymoron on June 11, 2013. He appeared on the 53rd issue of Mass Appeal together with fellow rapper and friend, Mac Miller. Schoolboy Q appeared on BET’s 106 & Park for the music video of Collard Greens. He was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on August 27, 2013 together with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis to perform White Walls, a song from the duo’s The Heist album. He performed Collar Greens at the BET Hip Hop Awards in October 2013. Schoolboy Q released Man of the Year on November 23, 2013.

    His participation on Macklemore and Ryan Lewi’s album, The Heist, earned him a nomination for Album of the Year. He debuted on television on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon performing Man of the Year. The following year, he toured for three months. He was guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live and performed Oxymoron’s fourth single, Studio and later came back to perform What They Want. He appeared on the April/May issue of hip-hop magazine, The Source. On April 5, 2018, Schoolboy Q released, Groovy Tony. On May 13, 2018, another song was released entitled That Part, featuring Kanye West. He appeared on The Late Night with Stephen Colbert to perform That Part, in a medley with Groovy Tony.

    His influences include 50 Cent, Jay Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Kurupt and 2Pac. His all-time favorite rapper is Nas. He also looks up to Sean Diddy Combs.
