SWV, aka Sisters with Voices, is an American all-girl group made up of Cheryl “Coko” Gamle, Tamara “Taj” Johnson, and Leanne “Lelee” Lyons. After sending out demos, they were signed in 1991 by RCA records.
SWV released their first album in 1992 titled It’s About Time which received a positive response overall. The album became a certified multi-platinum following its release with both the album and singles topping the charts. They also released their EP The Remixes in 1994. Their 2nd full-length album New Beginning was released in 1996. New Beginnings also became certified platinum due to its success and sales. Shortly after, they released their third studio album Release Some Tension on April 1997. The album featured big names such as Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg, and Queen Latifah. After releasing their fourth album A Special Christmas in 1997, the group disbanded the following year.
After announcing their hiatus, the members of SWV went on to attempt solo careers with Coko releasing Hot Coko in 1999. After her marriage and second child, she released her first gospel album Grateful in 2006. SVW reunited in 2005 and have started working on their new album I Missed Us which debuted on April 17, 2012.
SWV also starred in a reality TV show titled SWV Reunited which depicted their lives as individuals and as part of the group. The show aired on January 16, 2014 and ran for 2 seasons and was officially cancelled on November 6, 2018. Their latest release was in February 5, 2018, which is a full-length album titled Still.
