    Douglas Kenney was the editor of The Harvard Lampoon. He was also a member of the Signet society. Kenney met Henry Beard and they published Bored of the Rings in 1969. Together with another Harvard alumnus, Robert Hoffman, they started the National Lampoon magazine. In the beginning, Douglas Kenney wrote most of the magazine’s articles and he served as the editor, as well. Kenney wrote a comic novel entitled, Teenage Commies from Outer Space. It received a negative review from Beard resulting in Kenney throwing the manuscript in a bin.

    Kenney, Hoffman and Beard took advantage of their five-year buyout contract with 21st Century Communications, the publisher of National Lampoon. They divided among themselves the amount of $7,000,000. Kenney, together with Chris Miller and Harold Ramis, wrote the screenplay to National Lampoon’s Animal House when he left the magazine in 1977. He played the role of Stork in the film. Animal House is among the most profitable films in Hollywood history. He was also cast in Between the Lines and Delta House. He was a voice actor on Heavy Metal, a film that was shown in 1981.
